Just when I think I have caught up with the world again, I find out that once again as my Dad use to say I am “A day late and a dollar short.” All I want to do is buy my Grandson Gus a United States Savings Bond for his birthday, maybe start him on the road to saving for his collage fund. Turns out this is not an easy thing to do any more, you see you can no longer buy Bonds at your local Banks you have to buy them on line so being the modern woman that I think I am I figure no problem. WRONG!!!   Turns out as of January 1, 2012, the government no longer prints these wonderful jewels that we all coveted so much hoping that some day we would cash them in to pay for some wonderful dream we had.   OK, I say to my self “Self you can do this” but first I need to get social security numbers for Gus and his Dad, no problem right, so I ask my son. “Sure Mom I will get back to you” . Right but I give him the benefit of the doubt and wait  and wait, so I do what any Mother would do, I go over his head and ask his beautiful wife, Gus’s Mom. Armed with the information I need I head for my computer to do the Google thing, (I love Google by the way you can find out any thing you want to know about) and look up Savings Bonds. After that it all is a big blur, if I read right I need to open an account to buy a bond and so dose Gus. Gee I know he is really smart for his age but I am not sure if he knows how to sign his name yet. Anyway it turns out that my computer dose not have  an update enough operating system. Looks like I am still living in the dark ages.

Oh and don’t worry Gus, after all you are just going to be a year old on your birthday, Grandma has plenty of time to figure out the whole Collage thing!

On November 11, 2002, Veterans Day my husband died of Lung Cancer at the age of 60. Isabella my granddaughter was nine years old at that time. You know that when something like that happens you are so lost that you can only think about getting though the next day that you don’t think how this affects anyone else.  Isabella, who had lost her Poppy, carried on and keep him in her heart until until a couple of years ago when she decided to tell the world about her Poppy. So a couple of years ago she calls me and wants me to fly to Florida, where she lives, to attend a Fund Raiser called Strike Out Cancer. Strike Out Cancer turns out to be a bowling fund raiser for Cancer, now I am in no shape to bowl but it gave me a good excuse to go to Florida and see her and her brother and their Mom.  Now it turns out that Isabella and some friends had put the whole thing together with the help of the  Cancer Alliance. Great fun was had by all and they  raised a lot of money and a prouder Grandmother could not be found anywhere but she wasn’t done! She decides that not enough is being done in her area to raise money for research and to fight Lung Cancer, so her and her friend Melody Saunders take it on themselves to fix that. That brings us to Breathe Deep Tampa which is the first event in the Tampa Bay area to benefit and advocate for Lung Cancer, turns out this event is planned and managed by my Isabella and her friend Melody. They have teamed up with the LUNGevity Foundation to bring you the Breathe Deep Tampa and out two collage students are determined to succeed in their fight against Lung Cancer.

Isabella knows how it feels to lose someone you love to cancer and she is determined to keep some other 9 year old from losing their Poppy, Grandfather, Papaw or whatever they call that special person in their life, Isabella if you could see me now you would see me on my feet giving you a standing ovation.

YOU GO GIRL!!!!

If you are interested in more information on Breathe Deep Tampa, I have added their web site below.

Till next time World, Sharlet

No I know we all say I have the best Grandkids in the world, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t think so myself. How many Grandma’s could say they were in the presence of the world next’s Verlander (Me)? Now I say this without a doubt in my mind( well almost no doubt), you see I say this because on Tuesday night I watch him pitch 5 innings of outstanding ball. Now the only problem I see  with this whole Ball game thing, is his Father! You see I think by the time he gets to the big league his Dad will have had a stroke!  Not only him but every Father who has a son playing sports. You see I think if they could fit into those uniforms they would take their kids place in a second but they spend 3 hours or so patting each other on the backs and letting each other know that  their kid is the next Verlander or Broch or Jackson or you get the picture! Bill is by no means my only Grandchild, he just happens to be the next great Pitcher. Isabella my oldest is off to collage, I have no idea how this happened, one day she is crawling around getting under my feet then the next thing I know I am watching her Graduate. She is off to become the world next great Doctor ( good because I sure could use the free Doctor care), good luck baby girl! Roberto her brother graduated from eight grade the same day,( it was a very long day) he is going to be a great Rock Star some day and if not I am sure what ever he decides to do he will be great at it. Last but not least is Sarah, who is having way to much fun to worry about what lies ahead. I love them all, they make getting this old fun! Like Roberto said when I had my last birthday, “How old are you Grandma?”, I replyed “older than dirt Roberto” his answer “Yea but mighty fine dirt Grandma” That is what our Grandkids do for us “Mighty fine dirt Grandma”!

So every time I try to spring clean ( I know it is winter) I always find something to make me get side tracked, this time it is old photos. As you can guess the cleaning has gone by the way side and I am now looking at a bunch of old photos. How old? Well let me see I think about 13 or 14 years for the ones of Isabella, and I would like you to notice the dress and hat she is wearing, yours truly made them ( and you thought I was just another pretty face).  I would like to ask Isabella what happened to that dolls hair? Now the one of Bill and his father Bill SR was taken in 1953, I didn’t even know he had this picture.  Anyway I wanted to share some of them with you. Bill would have been about 11 and boy don’t they look alike!  Hope they make you smile like they did me.

Wednesday was my Grandson Billy’s birthday, well not really his birthday, that is in November but the celebration with Grandma before she leaves for Arizona.  Thinking about a birthday present for him has not been an easy task but after much thought I decided on money, now I know some people frown on giving money for birthdays but trust me everything I thought about buying him he already had. So a wallet and money it was with some other  stuff tossed in for fun. After school my son picked him and his sister up and off we went to Billy’s favorite place to eat The Japanese Stake House, now those of you that know me know that I can not stand Oriental food in any form but still it is his birthday so what could I do. We had a blast they cook the food right at your table, I almost lost my eyelashes to the flames and you had to watch out for the flying knives and stuff but the kids loved it. Below are pictures of Billy opening his presents from me, my favorite one is the one of him finding the $100.00 Bill in the wallet.

Today is my Granddaughters Birthday and believe you me it has been special in many ways. This is my sons weekend for the kids and since Sarah’s birthday was today, the day had to be split with both Mom and Dad, so bright and early today Bill takes Sarah to spend her time with her Mom and off we go birthday shopping. Now my Granddaughter is interested in Art and loves to draw and is really into Artist Trading Cards and has been making them with me and using all my supplies so I figure if I get her a bunch of supplies she can make her own cards with her own stuff when I go back to Arizona.   So I head for Michales and start filling up the cart when I see the Art Table, now I already have all this stuff in my cart but still I think what a great gift and I know the my son has already bought her gifts but I think it don’t hurt to point out this wonderful gift to him. Well needless to say he can’t say no to such a splendid gift, so we bring it home. Now I forgot to tell you that it has to be assembled but not to worry my son has help, my 11 year old Grandson will help he says. Two hours later it is all togeather but wait something is not right, oh gee it is backwards, so apart it comes but not to worry they know how to put it together this time, 45 minutes later we have a Artist Table and Stool. Very nice Mom, my son says but don’t ask me to take you shopping again. Gee, go figure. Sarah loved it and has even used it already. All and all the day turned out to be fun, Sarah had a great day we went to Game Works, her cousins came to be with her and they won lots of really cool junk and when you are 10, junk can be really cool.

My Granddaughter Sarah had her first acting job in a play called Metaphasia , I myself thought she was brilliant but I might be just a tad  prejudicial  being her Grandma and all. Anyway after the play her father thought it would be nice to put together a shadowbox with all the stuff she had connected to the play. They all got Tee shirts with the name of the play on the front, so they could wear them  when ever they got together to rehearse, so after the play was over they  autographed each others Tee shirts. She had her script, the program ,tickets, a red rose and her Tee shirt and we all agreed it would make a good shadowbox, so off to JoAnn Fabric  to get one. Now I have never done a shadowbox before and after several hour of bickering over how the shirt should  be placed, signatures  showing or not. Dad was for the signatures showing, but Sarah, man she knew what she wanted just the front with the name of the play on it. After much pining and unpinning we got it just right for her.  She is very proud of it and we are very proud of her. Now you may laugh at our little shadowbox but just remember that when it is on ebay one of these day being sold for bu-cue  bucks because she is so famous, that you knew it before it was worth so much and  was just a little shadowbox.

Sarah’s play was an outstanding success and played to a sold out audience ( except for the extra tickets my son bought for a certain Queen and her following, which will remain nameless). Now if I must say so myself, Sarah was a standout!!!! She was very good and never missed a cue, next time you see ask her to do her Dutch accent. She was perfect Princess Gretta. Look out world here comes Sarah!!!!!!

So I am in a quandary, I could not decide where to post this, in my grandchildren or in my zoo. You see Sarah is going to be in a play tomorrow (her first acting job?,  I question the first acting job thing) because my beautiful Sarah can spend hours looking in the mirror.  Making faces at her self,  posing, singing, talking to her self  so you see she has plenty of experience. My son is taking her to her Mothers to spend the night so her Mom can have the joy of helping her get ready for the part tomorrow. Drum roll!!!!!! I have been ask to baby sit Boris The Tortoise, my favorite instruction is if  he dose not move for a few hours I should pick him up and look in his shell and say “Hello are you in there?” ( you get the jest of the whole thing). My only hope for tonight is that Boris sleep safe and sound and that Sarah is a great success tomorrow! She plays a Dutch Princess and even sings (we might be looking at another Hanna Montana), good luck baby and you will always be my Princess and don’t worry about Boris! Love You.

My Princess, in one of her many acting job. Brake A Leg Baby!!!!!!

My Grand-kids are staying for the week and we are comparing blogs. Until a few days ago a blog was something that frogs lived in (oh that’s bogs).  So who’s blog is the best, I’ll not go down that path, but I will say this, being out blogged by your 9 year Granddaughter leaves a lot to be desired. Still I am having a hard time understanding this blog thing when we are sitting across the table from each other and blogging  to each other. Oh well, like the new high tech age I have jumped into with both feet look out blog world here I come.
